Pearland Police Say Boyfriend Faces Charges Over Child Death

Pearland police say a Houston man has been arrested on charges that he severely injured his girlfriend's toddler, who died several days later.

Brazoria County jail records show 20-year-old Joshua L. Mack was being held Sunday on a charge of injury to a child. Jail records do not list an attorney to speak for Mack, whose bond was set at $200,000.

Investigators say the case involves a Jan. 24 incident when a 15-month-old girl was left in Mack's care, while the child's mother shopped for groceries. Police say the youngster suffered brain trauma, bruised lungs and a lacerated liver. She died Jan. 28.

Mack was arrested after his indictment Friday.
