Parents Shocked Over Charge Against Day Care Teacher

Parents whose children attend a North Texas day care say they were shocked to learn a woman who works there is accused of leaving her daughter in a trash bin.

Alicia Carroll, 28, was arrested Sunday and charged with endangering her 7-year-old daughter after allegedly getting drunk and leaving the child "hiding" in a trash bin Saturday night.

Carroll works at Small Miracles Academy in Garland, where parent Tammara Goodson said Tuesday Carroll is her 4-year-old son's teacher.

Goodson said she went straight to the day care after finding out what happened.

"I showed the principal what I had seen, and she said, 'This is so unlike her behavior. We are not sure what is going on. We are not sure, but this is very unlike her,'" said Goodson.

NBC 5 checked with a representative of the Texas Child-Care Licensing Division, who said while they can’t comment on this specific case, with this type of arrest the child care business would be notified and the person would be allowed on the premises. Also, employees must go through background checks.

Carroll remains jailed on $25,000 bond.
