Dallas Carter High Graduate Killed in Irving Drive-By Shooting

An 18-year-old man was killed and two others were wounded during a shooting that followed an argument outside an Irving convenience store early Sunday morning, officials say. [[425073334,R]]

Police said two groups of people were arguing in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven near the intersection of Belt Line Road and Walnut Hill Lane at 1:41 a.m.

Investigators said one of the groups drove away and the other group followed. Officers said the second driver then opened fire on the first car, hitting three people inside.

Police said Ledajrick Rajae Cox, of DeSoto, was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. He graduated Saturday from David W. Carter High School, where he ran track and was a wide-receiver on the football team. 

"He could catch that football," said Brian Williams, Cox's football coach.

"He was a joy to be around," said Patrick Williams Sr., another football coach. "You could tell he enjoyed life.

Hundreds gathered at Carter High School Monday evening for a candlelight vigil. 

"I feel real bad," Cox's father, Reginald Henry, told the crowd gathered around him. "But I know today, for a short time, I feel real good having y'all out here." 

The crowd said a prayer and let go of balloons in the teen's memory.

"Parents, if you're out there, get in your kids' business," Reginald Henry warned. "If I could do it all again I would do it differen,t because I didn't know I only had 18 years with mine."

Irving police say an 18-year-old male was killed the day after graduating from Dallas Carter High School and two others were wounded in a shooting at a convenience store early Sunday morning.

The two other victims of the shootoing survived. One was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital and is expected to recover, according to authorities. The third was treated and released.

Two other people in the vehicle were not injured, accoding to authorities.

Police said they're trying to identify the three adult males who were inside the second car. Detectives said they were driving a newer model white Kia Optima.
