Man Dies After Dallas Home Catches Fire

The body of a homeowner was found inside a North Dallas garage that caught fire early Friday morning, fire officials say.[[379378941,C]]

Dallas Fire-Rescue officials said firefighters were called to the two-alarm fire at a home on the 7400 block of Kenshire Lane near White Rock Creek at 7:52 a.m.

Deputy Chief Michael Price says the fire started in the garage. First responding crews were able to extinguish that fairly quickly, but the fire spread through the walls and into the attic of the home.

Fire fighters had to use chainsaws to access the fire to get it out. Fire crews later found a man's body in the garage.

Housing records show it's owned by Ira Tobolowsky, a well-known attorney and member of the North Dallas community.

Neighbor Tony Militello told NBC 5 that Tobolowsky is the man who died in the home. Militello says he's lived in the neighborhood for a very long time and was an especially good neighbor.

"They're a great family, good people, good family man," he said. "Husband and wife have always been super friendly, they have three great boys that I know. It's a sad day. It's a sad day for the neighborhood, a terrible loss for a wonderful family."

The Dallas County Medical Examiner has not confirmed Tobolowsky is the victim in the fire as of yet.

The exact cause of death has not been determined but Deputy Chief Price says he did suffere some burns.

While the ignition of the fire is undetermined, gasoline and other common chemicals found in garages were present and led the fire to flash like an explosion.

Price says other family members were at home at the time of explosion and fire, but he could not say how many people.

The garage door was closed at the time of the fire and explosion.

The second alarm was called on the fire due to a need for more manpower, Price said.
