Older Couple Robbed at Gunpoint in Dallas Driveway

Couple, grandson uninjured in armed robbery at their home

Dallas police are investigating another report of a residential driveway robbery.

The latest reported robbery took place at about 8 p.m. Sunday when an older couple pulled into their driveway on Dutton Drive in Oak Cliff when they were met by a man with a gun.

One of the victims told NBC 5 she barely had taken a few steps when she was confronted by a man with a gun. She believes it was a teen couple who held she and her husband up as their young grandson sat in the car.

After pointing a gun at the woman and a knife at her husband, the duo made off with a wallet.

Luckily no one was hurt.

"That’s when we saw the car going off, and my neighbors were already running across the street because they heard the ruckus," said neighbor Ashley Carrizales.

At the time, she was unaware a robbery had taken place.

"It just happened really quickly," Carrizales said. "I saw my neighbors running out, I saw my other neighbors screaming."

Now neighbors are taking precautions.

"Every morning I get up, I check the house. We set the alarms, checking the backyard, make sure no one is in there; check my daughters cars," said Al Esparza.

Dallas police said there have been more than 20 driveway heists since early January. It's unclear right now what if any connection there is between the latest holdup and the others.
