Oklahoma Man Arrested in $1.3M Texas Drug Bust

An Oklahoma man faces drug charges after a traffic stop in the Texas Panhandle led to the seizure of more than $1.3 million worth of methamphetamine.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says a trooper discovered more than 36 pounds of meth wrapped in bundles and hidden in the seats of an SUV.

Carson County jail records show the driver, 18-year-old Leira Cota of Oklahoma City, was being held Friday on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. Jail officials didn't immediately provide information on bond or an attorney for Cota, who was arrested Wednesday on Interstate 40 near Conway.

DPS says Cota was pulled over for a traffic violation. Investigators did not immediately elaborate.

Authorities believe the methamphetamine was being transported from Nogales, Ariz., to Oklahoma City.
