Officer Hit By Truck in Texarkana Disturbance Dies

A Northeast Texas police officer has died after being hit by a truck while answering a disturbance involving dozens of people.  Texarkana police on Sunday did not immediately provide details on services for 30-year-old Officer William Sprague.

Sprague was seriously hurt early Friday in an incident that police say involved about 100 people and fights that broke out at Grady T. Wallace Park. Sprague was struck by a fleeing vehicle.

Police later arrested a suspect on a charge of aggravated assault of a public servant. Details weren't immediately available on whether the charge would be updated after police Saturday announced Sprague's death.

He'd been with the Texarkana Police Department since January 2012 after previous law enforcement jobs in Arkansas.  Sprague was married and had a 4-year-old son.
