Oak Cliff Deck Park Up for Debate Tuesday

People who live near the Dallas Zoo will have a chance to chime in Tuesday night on plans for a new deck park in their neighborhood.

A public hearing is scheduled Tuesday night at the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet Center cafeteria at 6 p.m.

The Dallas City Council approved plans last year to create a deck plaza, similar to Klyde Warren Park, over Interstate 35E between Marsalis Avenue to Ewing Avenue. The 5.5-acre plaza would lie at the same level as the existing southbound frontage roads.

Plans for the park have been met with mixed reaction from city leaders, though the majority of council members back the plans.

The predicted cost for a park at the City Council's approved location is $135 million. The Regional Transportation Council has offered $40 million, so the remaining share required from city of Dallas sources could be $95 million.
