Thieves Target Vehicles at Fitness Centers in 9 Cities

Police say thieves use stolen credit cards to buy high-end electronics

Police said three thieves have racked up thousands of dollars on credit cards stolen from vehicles parked at fitness centers in nine North Texas cities.

Investigators said the thieves have hit Allen, McKinney, Richardson, Dallas, Grapevine, Hurst, Mansfield, Flower Mound and Lewisville.

"It's kind of unique because they're hitting the gyms and the fitness centers," Lewisville police Capt. Kevin Deaver said. "They're hitting LA Fitness, 24 Fitness and Lifetime Fitness," he said.

"At a gym, you generally know someone is going to be in there for an hour, maybe up to two hours," Deaver said.

He said the thieves may watch people go inside and then target their vehicles.

Detectives said the threesome then goes to local Targets and Walmarts to buy high-end electronics.

Police said the thieves are described as a clean-shaven Asian man who is 20 to 30 years old with black hair and a thin build, an Asian woman who is 20 to 30 years old with long, black hair and a tattoo on her upper right arm that may be partially removed and an Asian man in his mid- to late-30s with black hair, tattoos on both forearms and a stocky build.

Anyone with information on the thefts should call Lewisville police at 972-219-5130.
