Local Boy to Train at Russian Ballet Academy

George Chadick of Denton invited to attend prestigious ballet academy

It's the chance of a lifetime for one North Texas ballet dancer. 11-year-old George Chadick of Denton has been invited to train at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Russia.

In an industry that's dominated by girls, Chadick holds on to a dream of his own.

"To become one of the best dancers in the world. Or try to be," Chadick said.

He is on his way to reaching that goal. The invitation to train at Bolshoi comes after a six-week audition in Connecticut. Chadick's parents, George and Victoria Chadick, said he is one of the youngest Americans and only boy from Texas that will train there.

"He said, 'I want to do this, and I want to go to Russia.' George is one like my other two. When he makes up his mind to do something, he will do it," Victoria Chadick said.

The decision to let him train in Moscow has not been easy. His parents said the tuition is pricey and their son is not used to leaving his Denton home.

"I'll miss playing with my brother," Chadick said.

Chadick will be packing his bags at the end of October with the support of his parents and siblings who also dance.

"The more we learn, the more we see how incredible this opportunity is for him," Steven Chadick said.

It is a journey that started a few years ago and will continue as long as Chadick dances towards his dream.
