North Dallas Drivers Tired of Tire Trouble

Some residents in a North Dallas neighborhood claim construction could be the reason they're having so many flat tires.

Camino Construction is nearing completion on a project along Boundbrook Avenue, Boundbrook Circle and Ashcroft Avenue.

"While we appreciate the city upgrading our street and our water and sewer lines, it's starting to cost me money and possibly other residents around here money," said resident Sara Cook.

Cook says it has been about a year-long project, and she's frustrated with recent flat tires. She says she didn't have nails in her tires prior to construction and figures it's more than a coincidence.

"I have picked up seven nails over the course of construction in my tires," said resident Sara Cook. "Last time I noticed a flat tire, I went to the tire shop and there were four nails in my tires and I had to end up replacing all four of my tires for over $700."

Cook says the last four nails in her tires were discovered in January. She's frustrated and wants the construction company to help her pay for her new tires, but Cook says the company's insurance denied her claim and told her they weren't using nails for the project.

A representative for Camino Construction told NBC 5 they were laying pipe until September, and only after started using nails toward the end of the project when paving.

Rene Orta, who lives in the neighborhood, says he has had two flat tires since moving there four months ago, but he hasn't filed a formal complaint with the company.

"It's frustrating especially I have a five day old newborn so it's frustrating when stuff like that happens and you have a pregnant wife and she has to get around with a flat tire," Orta said.

Camino Construction says the company only received one complaint about nails. The company says it needs more evidence, such as the actual nails from the tires, to prove the nails came from its construction project and not elsewhere.
