Drivers in north Dallas may finally get some much needed traffic relief as a portion of the LBJ Express project opens on Saturday.
New toll lanes running parallel to currently open lanes from Preston Road to Greenville Avenue along Interstate 635 will open at midnight on Saturday.
The lanes have a minimum speed limit of 50 miles an hour and will cost varying rates based on vehicle size, amount of passengers, and how congested the toll lanes become.
The three-mile long managed toll lanes are only Phase 1 of the TEXpress lane system that will eventually be added to LBJ Express Project. Phase 2, running on I-35E is scheduled to open in Spring 2014. Phase 3 of the project's toll lanes will connect the two previous phases and is scheduled to be completed by December of 2015.
TEXpress managed toll lanes are being added or are in the designs for six major traffic corridors in North Texas.
