New Gas Drilling Ordinance for Arlington

Want more safety at sites

Arlington city leaders approved several gas drilling policies in order to reinforce safety at the different sites.

According to the Star-Telegram, one new rule includes installing surveillance cameras at the different sites. The council also decided that diesel-powered rigs need to be further than 450 feet from schools, homes, and churches.

With more than 360 well sites in Arlington, and several new sites looking to receive a permit, Gas Well Coordinator Collin Gregory said that "any extra eyes that we can get will help."

He also said that the added documentation would allow for an increase in response time if a problem were to arise.
