New Details Released in Dalworthington Gardens Domestic Shooting

Man, woman remain in critical, but stable, condition at JPS Hospital, police say

Dalworthington Gardens police have released the identities of a couple critically wounded during a shooting in their home over the weekend.

Dep. Chief Aaron Ausmus said 62-year-old Donald Graves shot his fiancΓ©e, 61-year-old Deborah Ransom, inside a home on the 3300 block of Roosevelt Drive on Saturday morning.

Police said Ransom called 911 at about 10:23 a.m. and said she was being held hostage. Police arrived within two minutes, but not before two shots had been fired, one hitting Graves and one hitting Ransom.

Ausmus said the 911 operator who took the call was related to Graves and was a hero for the way she performed her job in the face of such adversity. He added the operator's name is being withheld out of respect for her privacy.

"She was very aware of who was involved and was as calm as can be -- showed excellent professionalism. Her demeanor was incomparable to anything I've seen in that kind of situation. We're very proud of her," said Ausmus, who has only been with the Dalworthington Gardens Police Department for 13 days.

Both Graves and Ransom were transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth and are listed in critical, but stable, condition.

Ausmus said an arrest warrant has been issued and once his condition improves, Graves will be taken into custody.

"I am proud to say, though I've only been here about 13 days, I am very proud of the professional and outstanding performance of our officers and our partner agencies in this situation," said Ausmus. "Despite how difficult this situation was, our people put it beside themselves, went in and did the job with excellence."

Police found no prior history or incidents at the address or with the people involved.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and a motive has not been released. The Dalworthington Gardens Police Department is withholding the 911 call due to the ongoing investigation.

Officers from Pantego and Arlington assisted in the investigation.
