The NHL season is getting shorter and shorter. The National Hockey League announced Thursday the cancellation of the 2012-13 regular season through Jan. 14.

The league said the cancellations are necessary due to the absence of a new collective bargaining agreement between the NHL Players' Association and the NHL.

So far, a total of 625 regular-season games, or 50.8 percent of the season, have been canceled.  There are now less than half of the original 82 games left on the season schedule.

If a CBA is agreed upon and signed, the Dallas Stars first game would be Jan. 15 in Nashville against the Predators.
