NBC 5 was presented with four PromaxBDA Local Awards during the 2017 PromaxBDA Station Summit held June 22 at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas.
NBC 5 won more awards than any other North Texas television station, winning four awards, including two gold and two bronze, for a second consecutive year. The awards distinguish the best in television and digital marketing, design, creativity and innovation.
“It’s our brand team’s responsibility to effectively and creatively communicate with our audience so they understand the quality that NBC 5 and the ‘Texas Connects Us’ brand represents,” said Tom Ehlmann, President and General Manager, NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth. “We feel honored to receive national recognition by PromaxBDA for the very high-quality, promotional work our team creates every day.”

- Application or Website Promotion – Video Based: “News vs. Weather”
BRONZE
- Copywriting: A Brand Poem – “Up Here”
- Program Specific Promo – News: “State of Mind”
The unique brand poem, “Up Here,” was recognized with a gold award for Image Promo – News and a bronze for “Copywriting.” Authored by a National Slam Poetry Champion and Texan, the poem illustrated the rich cultural diversity of North Texas and the NBC 5 audience.
“Using poetry on-air was a bit of a risk,” said Gary Thomas Wann, Vice President of Brand Marketing, NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth. “In the end, the risk paid off as it resonated with much of our North Texas audience because it showed the many diverse faces of our viewers and how prominently the community is reflected in our news coverage, reinforcing that ‘Texas Connects Us.’”
“News vs. Weather,” which won the gold in the “Application or Website Promotion: Video-based” category, was a promotional commercial that gave a fresh take on demonstrating how users could set their “NBCDFW App” with personal preferences.

In the “Program Specific Promo – News” category, KXAS won the bronze award with the promo “State of Mind,” which gave a creative and emotional interpretation of how individuals with mental afflictions feel internally through an artistically styled promo highlighting everyday people.
