Mother With Special Needs Son Given New Van

Angelique Bedwell glows when she talks about her 13-year-old son, Jason, who suffers from Cerebral Palsy.

“I call him my little miracle baby, I wouldn’t change it for anything,” Bedwell said. “When I had him, I had him in a different state and I just had to come back home to Texas where I was born and raised because people are just so giving and caring."

Thursday, those who cared came to her rescue.

Just more than a week ago, thieves stole Bedwell’s Chevy Tahoe from her apartment complex in Grand Prairie. A day later, Dallas police found it, but it had been stripped.

NBC 5 aired her story and less than 24 hours later, complete strangers stepped in to help.

The radio morning team, Jagger Mornings on 102.1 The Edge, organized a group of people willing to help, and Texas Auto Warehouse and Texas Motor Cars pitched in to buy the van and service it in less than 24 hours.

“I was like, 'OK, I think my heart is going to stop any minute,'” Bedwell said.

Her son was at school when his mom climbed behind the wheel, but she said he can’t wait to go for a spin.

“Knowing that I have a safe ride, something to provide for him, something I don’t have to worry about, 'Well how am I going to make payments, how am I going to feed my son this month, how I am going to make it?” Bedwell said, overcome with emotion.
