Mother Hopes to Keep Convicted Nurse in Prison

A former Central Texas nurse convicted in a child's death is to be released in less than five years from prison. The child's mother and others hope, however, that another criminal case can keep her behind bars.

Genene Jones was sentenced to 99 years for murder in the 1982 death of 15-month-old Chelsea McClellan from an overdose of a muscle relaxant. Jones, now 63, is to be released in February 2018 under a mandatory release law in effect at the time.

However, she was suspected of being involved in dozens of deaths of other children. The tot's mother, Petti McClellan of Houston, says she hopes someone might be able to give additional evidence against Jones.

She tells the San Antonio Express-News that the plan is a long shot.
