More than 20 Dallas Public Schools to Get Improvements

Trustees in the state's second-largest public school district have decided to spend nearly $130 million to upgrade more than 20 campuses.

The Dallas Independent School District board early Friday approved the interim funds for renovations, expanded classrooms and other improvements.

A DISD statement says the money will allow the district to begin addressing the immediate needs of some facilities. The money will come from surplus bond proceeds, maintenance tax notes and district reserve funds.

DISD has about 160,000 students. The Houston Independent School District is the state's largest with about 215,000 students.
