More Storage Theft Victims Come Forward in Plano

Storage units often contain people's most valuable possessions, and some units in Plano have become targets for thieves.

Monday, Plano police said there had been 20 reports with multiple victims at four storage facilities.

Since then, they say four more victims have come forward. Police say there may be more than 100 victims.

Anyone with a storage unit in Plano is being encouraged to visit it soon.

"The majority of the people who are reporting this stuff, they haven't been to the storage facility in a couple months so this is stuff that could've happened all the way back into 2015 and they just now find out about it," Officer David Tilley said.

Natalie Smith said Friday it had been six months since she last checked on her unit at Public Storage on 14th Street in Plano.

Fortunately, all her father's items were still inside.

"I'm relieved," she said.

Dionis Anderson wasn't as lucky. She rents a unit at Public Storage on Alma Drive, a location police say has been hardest hit by burglars.

Anderson recently moved to Texas and had almost everything she owned in storage.

"I opened it up, nothing was there," she said.

Police said the businesses may not have known about the burglaries.

Investigators are working closely with the businesses to try to track down those responsible.
