More Changes for Drivers Near Dallas' Mixmaster

Major traffic changes have taken effect for drivers around the Dallas mixmaster, and all the changes are leading to confusion for some drivers who are accustomed to their usual routes.

The changes include flip flopping Interstate 35E and Interstate 30 East lanes headed south on I-35 into the mixmaster and shifting lanes along I-30 coming into Dallas from the east.

The work comes as part of the $798 million renovation of the interchange.

These are not the first changes drivers have encountered in the area and they won't be the last, but change isn't always easy to make.

"It's just so convoluted," said Armando Garza from Mesquite. "All the signs and everything else, even my navigation doesn't have the updated exits."

"I never know what it's going to be from one day to the next," said driver Toni Crowder, who travels through the area daily.

Crowder says lane changes caught her off guard Monday.

"I did that today," she said. "I didn't know about the lane change today."

Project leaders alerted the public about the changes ahead of time, but it's difficult to reach each of the thousands who pass through the mixmaster daily.

"Yeah, it's confusing. It's confusing I guess until they get it finished," said driver Robert Hall.

Work is scheduled for completion in summer 2017.
