Mom Accused of “Flogging” Adopted Nigerian Daughters

A Houston mom is being accused by prosecutors of severely "flogging" her two Nigerian adopted daughters last month.

The Houston Chronicle reports Onyeka Lucy Asonye has been charged with two counts of felony injury to a child.

The 46-year-old remained jailed Monday.

Authorities say a daycare worker first noticed injuries on the 3-year-old girl. Investigators say both she and her 4-year-old sister had multiple bruises and scars over their entire bodies.

Prosecutors allege Asonye initially denied hurting her daughters but later confessed, saying she caused some of the injuries by "flogging" them with sticks at their home.

The girls are now in the custody of Child Protective Services. Asonye's attorney couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
