A Mexican man has been returned to Dallas after a years-long investigation to face charges that he raped two girls.

Police said Jose Adan Rico was linked to two crime scenes with DNA evidence. He was charged in 2009 with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of two girls, ages 12 and 14.

Dallas police said the crimes took place in 2008 and 2009 in the Five Points area of Dallas and that the nature of the crimes, with both girls being bound with tape, put the neighborhood and police on edge that a serial rapist was at work.

During the investigation, detectives found a suspicious persons report with a partial license plate that led them to Rico, who had been arrested the day before on a burglary charge. DNA and other evidence obtained from Rico and his seized vehicle linked him to DNA evidence found at both sexual assault crime scenes, police said.

Rico eventually bonded out and was deported by immigration authorities who later said they didn't know about the charges.

Police said they obtained a provisional warrant and used informants in Mexico to locate Rico. U.S. Marshals were able to help arrest him. They brought him back to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport Thursday.

He is being held on $100,000 bond at the Dallas County Jail with an ICE hold.
