A Dallas police officer witnessed the SUV go past his squad car eastbound on Elam Rd. at a high rate of speed.
Around the 9000 block of Elam Rd., the SUV went out of control, hit a utility pole, knocked down power lines and went off the road.
The overturned vehicle landed in a grove of trees trapping the driver inside. Rescue crews attempted to free the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
He has been identified as 21-year-old David Kilgore of Mesquite. No other persons were injured in the accident, and Oncor crews have restored power in the affected area.
