Memorial Set for Student Fatally Shot by College Officer

Family and friends are set to remember a San Antonio university student fatally shot last week by a police officer during a traffic stop.

A memorial service is set Thursday for Robert Cameron Redus, a student at the University of the Incarnate Word. The service will be at a church in the Houston suburb of Baytown, where Redus grew up.

An investigation into the shooting continues.

Authorities said Redus and campus police Capt. Chris Carter had struggled after Carter tried to handcuff Redus following a traffic stop on Friday for speeding and driving erratically. Police said Redus was shot repeatedly by Carter when he charged at the officer.

But Redus' parents, as well as friends, said the account of the shooting is inconsistent with the 23-year-old's character.
