Medina Officially Joins Race for TX Governor

After months of hints (including comments on our stories from her supporters), Wharton County Republican chairwoman Debra Medina is officially jumping in the GOP primary battle for Texas Governor.

Speaking at a rally Saturday morning, Medina said her two political rivals, current Gov. Rick Perry and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, have "dropped the ball" for Texas.

Medina plans on running with a Libertarian message, focusing on immigration reform and border security, as well as property rights issues.

Two weeks ago, Medina's previous boss Rep. Ron Paul sent out a letter praising her as a "real defender of liberty." Paul himself ran a Libertarian campaign during the 2008 GOP Presidential primary where he quickly became a stand-out contender -- especially on the Internet.

Analysts believe Medina's run could be similar to Paul's -- enthusiastic supporters for their message, but, eventually not a breakthrough at the polls.
