McLelland Shot at 20 Times: NBC News

Citing a federal source with knowledge of the investigation, NBC News' Pete Williams is reporting that slain Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland was at shot 20 times.

NBC News originally reported that McLelland had been shot 20 times. However, the federal source did not say whether every round hit him.

McLelland's wife, Cynthia, was shot once when the couple was gunned down in their home, NBC News reported.

An affidavit released to the media Monday said both McLelland and his wife were struck multiple times. The reason for the discrepancy is unclear, Williams reported.

The bodies of Mike and Cynthia McLelland were found Saturday evening at about 6:45 p.m. by a family friend who had gone to check on the couple after being unable to reach them.

The Kaufman County Sheriff's Department was expected to release an update on to the case on Tuesday morning, but the press conference was canceled and officials said the next update would be done via a news release.

A public memorial service for the McLellands is scheduled for Thursday at First Baptist Church of Sunnyvale in Sunnyvale. That memorial will be available for viewing online at NBCDFW.com.

The couple will be buried in Mike McLelland's hometown of Wortham on Friday.
