McKinney voters will decide the fate of a newly approved $220 million bond.
The McKinney Independent School District board voted unanimously Thursday to approve the bond, which includes plans for a $50 million stadium and events center.
The majority of people who spoke in the open forum portion of the board meeting were in favor of the bond.
Critics question whether the stadium is a good use of money, especially with the $60 million Allen Eagles stadium just miles away.
People who live near McKinney's proposed stadium site are concerned about the noise, lights and traffic the stadium would inevitably bring.
John Haggarty lives about a football field away from where the stadium would be built. Haggarty said he retired to his quiet neighborhood near Hardin Boulevard and McKinney Ranch Parkway to escape the crowds.
"It's more than a stadium. It's going to be a sports complex. They're going to have band concerts, they're going to have marching band competitions there, they're going to have the lower grades play football there during the week, so it won't just be Friday night and the weekend," he said. "It's going to be all the time."

The bond proposal also includes technology upgrades and a new fine arts auditorium at McKinney High School.
"I urge you to put this on the ballot come May and send the right message to McKinney High kids, that you support them," one supporter said during the meeting.
Under the proposed bond, the school district says the tax rate will be reduced by 2 percent.
The bond election is scheduled for May 7.
