McKinney School Band Surprises Sick Band Member

Thursday, Cockrill Middle School band members surprised 12-year-old Emily Thompson, a McKinney resident and seventh grader, who was recently diagnosed with severe Aplastic anemia, with a concert at Slaughter Elementary School.

Slaughter Elementary is the site of a bone marrow donor registration drive on Saturday on Emily’s behalf.

Emily was recently diagnosed with the rare blood disease and needs a bone marrow transplant.

She’s missed several days of school and band practice.

“I think it really picked up her spirits a lot and it's wonderful to see the school supporting her like it has,” said Emily’s father, Grady Thompson.

"Get Swabbed" for Emily and Others! Bone Marrow Donor Drive is Saturday, February 28, 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. at Slaughter Elementary School, located at 2706 Wolford Street in McKinney.[[294317541,L]]
