McKinney Family Searches For Hit-and-Run Driver

A McKinney family is turning to social media to find the driver who crashed into them and took off.

The accident happened at about 8 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Highway 5 and Virginia Street, while Alisha Stevens says she was at a stop light with her two children, ages 9 and 10, in the back seat.

She says the other driver plowed into the family SUV from behind, jolting the SUV forward.

However, instead of stopping to help, she says the other driver drove around the family and took off.

“As a mother, it makes me very angry. It’s very upsetting to know that somebody could just speed off like that, not have a conscious whatsoever,” says Stevens.

Her 9-year-old daughter was transported to the hospital.

Stevens’ mother, Julie Jones, arrived at the scene as paramedics loaded her granddaughter into the ambulance.

"I can’t shake what I saw, with her strapped to a board, her head strapped down wrapped up in those little blankets. It was terrifying,” says Jones.

The family says the 9-year-old didn’t suffer any serious injuries and is back home recovering.

Police are investigating the accident, but Jones is hoping social media can generate leads.

She posted about the incident on Facebook, along with pictures of her granddaughter on the stretcher, and the post has been shared more than 250 times as of 8 p.m. Friday.

“I’ve seen it before, where social media is helping officers catch people right and left. So I started posted like crazy today on any site I could find,” says Jones.

They hope someone who saw the accident or the other driver comes forward with information.

“I’m hoping somebody out there saw something and can come forward. Let’s catch this guy,” says Jones.

Here’s the description of the hit-and-run driver, according to Jones’ Facebook post:

“It was a older model car, like a Honda Accord body style, grey. There was something hanging from the rear view mirror possibly a handicap sign. It was a male driver wearing a ball cap. The front of his car is smashed.”

They ask anyone with information to call McKinney police.
