Power Service Restored in McKinney

Disruption to feeder line cuts power to 2,000 customers

Power has been restored in McKinney after an outage Monday morning knocked out power in two schools, disabled traffic lights and cut service to thousands of customers.

The outage was reported shortly before 10 a.m. and service was restored before noon after affecting about 2,000 customers. Oncor officials say the cause of the outage was a disruption in a feeder line on the northwest side of the city.

McKinney police said the outage affected some traffic lights, but did not cause any issues.

McKinney North High School and Vega Elementary School were without power for a short time Monday, but school officials said they would not dismiss the students unless they knew the power would be out for an extended period of time.

The Collin County Sheriff's Office went dark for about 20 seconds before their backup generator kicked in. The Collin County Courthouse experienced a similar problem, though their power is back on.
