Remember that Mavs’ 3-0 road trip? Yeah, me neither.

What occurred Sunday night at American Airlines Center better be rock-bottom. Has to be rock bottom. Right?

On the heels of losing a game in which they shot 50 percent and scored 112 points, the Mavs’ offense ground to an unsightly halt in a loss to the 11-win Knicks in which they managed only 80 points. And just like that, Dallas has lost four in-a-row at home. And just like that, their leader has put them in an ugly category.

“The way we let those games slip away, I don’t think we’re a playoff team,” Dirk Nowitzki said after Friday night’s loss to the Clippers. “We’ve got to win those games. We’ve got to find a way to get those stops and protect home court.”

In a hauntingly familiar refrain, the Mavs blew a big lead against Los Angeles. Up 13 points, only to lose 119-112 as the Clippers – without injured star guard Chris Paul – ended the game on a 16-2 run.

This year the Mavs have now lost games in they led by 13, 17, 18 and 19 points. Ouch.

But last night their biggest lead was 8-4 before the lowly Knicks took control and stymied the Mavs into their worst offensive night of the season. Playing their best basketball just five days ago, the Mavs are suddenly in a tailspin:

Ugly home losses. Bad defense. Woeful offense. Deficient rebounding. And, oh yeah, Samuel Dalembert benched for over-sleeping. Again.

Sounds like it’s time for Rick Carlisle to kick his team in the collective butt.
