As North Texas community advocates urge Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to allow his players to take part in protests during the national anthem, another Dallas team owner says America was built on disagreements.
When asked about the controversy surrounding the national anthem at games during practice Monday, Mavericks owner Cuban suggested it's the media — not the fans — taking note.
"Just walk through the concourse of a game while the national anthem is playing. The whole place doesn't stop," Cuban said.
While Cuban told reporters he believes fans aren't keeping score before the game begins, he did share his own love for the flag, along with plans to honor it in a special tribute video before games.
"We're going to make a proactive effort to recognize that it's an important symbol for this country, but we're also going to recognize that what it stands for is the right for people to disagree and to stand up for your beliefs. This country was built on people disagreeing," Cuban said.
Cuban added that he's encouraging players with something to say to do so in the tribute video.
"They can say exactly what's on their mind, so they control the narrative and the media doesn't," Cuban said.
Cuban tempered some of his own political aspirations, saying he'd only make a run for the presidency if he were single.
He did, however, say he's working on his own healthcare plan he'd be happy to share with the current administration.
