Always in search of big bodies, the Mavs are bringing back Bernard James.
The 33rd overall pick in the 2012 draft will sign a one-year contract for a veteran’s minimum contract, giving the Mavs another interior option – along with Tyson Chandler, Brandan Wright and Greg Smith –
for the 2015 season.
James, a 6-10, 240-pound banger, has been a disappointment through two seasons. He’s played in only 76 games, started just 11 (as a rookie) and averaged a mere 2.1 points and 2.3 rebounds.
Though he’s shown the natural ability to block shots, he’s still far from a polished offensive player – either scoring or passing.
But given his size and athleticism and attitude, the Mavs are wise to not give up on him. Yet.
A native Texan who was born in Duncanville and graduated from UT-Arlington, Richie Whitt has been a mainstay in the Metroplex media since 1986. He’s held prominent roles on all media platforms including newspaper (Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Dallas Observer), radio (105.3 The Fan) and TV (co-host on TXA 21 and numerous guest appearances, including NBC 5). He currently lives in McKinney with his wife, Sybil, and two very spoiled dogs.
