Man in Wheelchair in Custody After Five-Hour Standoff With Houston Police

A 27-year-old wheelchair user who shot a relative is in custody after a five-hour standoff with Houston police at his home.

Police spokesman Victor Senties told the Houston Chronicle the incident started late Sunday night. Officers went to the house after the suspect and a family member argued and the suspect shot his relative in the arm.

The wounded man was taken to a hospital. Senties said the injury wasn't life-threatening.

Senties said officers then heard gunshots in the home and SWAT was called, but the suspect refused to speak to negotiators.

By early Monday, the suspect surrendered.

Senites said the suspect's family told investigators he has post-traumatic stress disorder after being shot in a home invasion a couple of years ago, which resulted in him using a wheelchair.
