Man With Asperger's Syndrome Missing in Bedford

Family says 28-year-old Luigi Araud disappeared Saturday

A Bedford family is desperately searching for its missing special needs son.

Luis "Luigi" Araud, who has Asperger's syndrome, was last seen on Saturday afternoon. Luke Vermeulen, his stepfather, said the 28-year-old left his wallet and phone at home.

"Luigi, come home if you can," Vermeulen said. "If you can't, let us know where you're at, please. We understand what you're feeling. We'll try and work out whatever we can work out. We're just concerned."

Vermeulen said his stepson left on foot. He was last seen in blue jeans, a black, white and red jacket and work boots.

Vermeulen said his stepson told his parents he was upset after learning he had to pay a certain tax on his meager income. He said his son didn't trust the government and had talked about disappearing. The family said Araud has not ever run away from home before.

Anyone who has seen Araud is asked to call Bedford police at 817-952-2440.
