Man Who Admitted to Killing 2 Boys to be Released

A Texas man who unexpectedly pleaded guilty to killing his two adopted stepsons in 1986 after years of claiming his innocence was set to be released from prison and sent to an Austin halfway house on Monday.

The Waco Tribune-Herald reported that Edward E. Graf Jr. will be monitored by GPS.

Last week, the 62-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of murder even as a jury deliberated during his retrial.

He took a plea deal that carries a 60-year prison sentence but counts his 28 years in custody as time served, which made him immediately eligible to apply for parole.

Texas' highest criminal court granted Graf a new trial after a panel of fire experts concluded that arson investigators who testified against Graf at his first trial were wrong.
