Man Steals Forklift to Grab an ATM: Hurst Police

Police in Hurst released dash cam video of a man who allegedly stole a forklift from a construction site, then used it to push an ATM down the road, leading to a slow-speed chase.

A police officer spotted the forklift leaving the Bank of America parking lot in North Richland Hills at about 3 a.m. Sunday, pushing an ATM toward the State Highway 183 service road.

The Hurst police officer followed, flashed his lights and then tried to pull over the forklift driver.

That's when the forklift pulled back into the bank parking lot and hit another ATM.

The driver jumped out, so the officer ran after him, and when the driver stumbled and started fighting back, police say the officer used a Taser to subdue and arrest him.

The officer hurt his hand in the struggle, but is expected to be OK.

Max Carrel Rippetoe, 36, is charged with theft of the ATM and theft of the forklift, which was stolen from the Taco Casa construction site in the 1000 block of Bedford Euless Road in Hurst, police said.
