Arlington police are investigating a shooting that happened Monday night on the Workman Junior High School track.

According to investigators, a man was shot in the ankle while he was running on the track shortly before 10 p.m.  He was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth for treatment.

The track is located in an area of the Workman campus that includes a football and baseball field, along West Arbrook Boulevard.

No suspect was identified at the scene, though initial reports indicated that someone was seen running away from the area.

A neighbor told NBC 5 he heard three shots fired, and then heard a man's cries for help before he called 911.

Arlington police cannot yet confirm whether this shooting was a targeted incident or a random act of violence.
