Man Shot, Killed in Parker County, Gunman Sought

A man was shot Friday morning and later died, now Parker County sheriff's deputies are searching for the gunman.

The Parker County Sheriff's Department says a man was shot in the 200 block of Joyce Street north of Weatherford at around 9:30 a.m. When deputies arrived they found the man lying on the ground in the parking area near a duplex.

The man was shot in the lower abdomen, he was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth where he underwent surgery, but investigators say he died from his injuries. His name is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

A witness reported seeing a man flee the scene toward a wooded area. A nearby elementary school was notified and Weatherford Police secured the school and neighborhood.

NBC 5 viewers reported seeing officers dressed in SWAT in the area.

"No students were on the premises due to school being out of session for summer break," Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said via email. "A search of the area by law enforcement officers was unsuccessful in locating the suspect. We encourage anyone who has information about the suspect's identity or location to contact us immediately."

Fowler said the man is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
