A man is dead after police shot him while checking a drug complaint at a southwest Dallas apartment complex.

The shooting happened about 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at the Mountain Valley Apartments between Loop 12 and Mountain Creek Lake dam.

Dallas police Sr. Cpl. Melinda Gutierrez says two undercover officers went to the complex and bought drugs from two people, who then tried to rob the officers.

Gutierrez said as backup officers swooped in to help, one of the men who allegedly sold drugs to the officers pulled a weapon.  Shots were fired, killing one of the men.

The officers were not injured.

No identities have been revealed.
