Police in Fort Worth shot and killed a man who opened fire on a patrol vehicle early Sunday morning.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner has identified the man as 29 year old Christopher Johnston.

It happened around 10:00 a.m. in the 4400 block of Altamesa Blvd. in Fort Worth.  While responding to a call of a man shooting at houses, officers encountered a man holding a semi-automatic handgun.

"The subject opened fire on the officers striking a patrol vehicle at least three times," Major Paul Henderson, Chief of Staff of Fort Worth Police Department, said.  "Officers returned fire striking the subject causing him to cease his aggression. The subject subsequently expired on the scene."

No one else was injured or killed.
