Man Sentenced for Sexually Assaulting Teen

A Central Texas inmate incarcerated on burglary charges has been sentenced to eight years in prison after his DNA was linked to the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl.

The Austin American-Statesman reported that 21-year-old David Maynez pleaded guilty to injuring a child and burglary. He received an eight-year sentence for each crime, and the punishments will run concurrently. Prosecutors threw out a felony charge of aggravated sexual assault in the plea deal.

The girl said she was sexually assaulted at an Austin house party in July 2013 after running away from a residential treatment center. She said she blacked out at the party.

Maynez told officers he had been high on methamphetamine and cocaine and didn't remember having sex.

Maynez's lawyer said her client didn't realize the girl was a minor.
