Man Robs Female on Katy Trail

A female was robbed while walking on the Katy Trail near the 3000 block of Blackburn Street the night of Sept. 27.

According to the Dallas Police Department, the female was approached by the suspect and pushed to the ground. The suspect took property from the female, but she was able to fend him off by kicking and screaming. Officers responded to a call about the robbery at 9:20 p.m.

Police said  the victim described the suspect as a black male 20 to 25 years of age weighing 250 pounds with a short afro.  He was wearing a black shirt with white lettering, black shorts and black shoes.

Women on the Katy Trail Friday said they're wary of being in the area after dark.

"I definitely don't run out here late, this trail specifically. It's not really meant to be running at night with all the trees and the you know the  bushes and it's really not lit up enough to be running at night," said Julie Gutierrez.

"[It's] just awful that someone was attacked on the trail. You know, you come out to get some exercise, but it is 9:30, it's dark, it's not really safe to be coming out that late at night," said Francis Lambert.

"It makes you hyper aware," said Lisa Creed.

"Safety is really important to me personally and I'm very aware off my surroundings and I'm really glad that that young woman didn't get hurt worse than what happened," said Gutierrez.

The Dallas Police Department asks that anyone with information on the offense please contact The Robbery Unit at (214) 670-3584.
