A driver was killed and his passenger injured Sunday after he lost control of a Ford Mustang headed eastbound on Interstate 20, Arlington police said.

The man crashed into the guardrail near the Green Oaks Boulevard entrance ramp at about 10:30 p.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

His passenger was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth for treatment and was expected to survive her injuries, police said.

Witnesses told police that the Mustang was speeding on the roadway before it lost control and crashed. However, at this point, it isn't clear whether wet roadways, speed or other circumstances caused the wreck, police said.

The accident remained under investigation Monday.

Police said two crashes involving other vehicles happened on the same roadway as others tried to avoid the wreck. None of those crashes resulted in serious injury, police said.
