Man Gunned Down Trying to Stop Assault on Woman, Suspect Arrested

Dallas police are investigating the death of a man fatally shot overnight Monday while trying to stop an assault on a woman along 2nd Avenue, police say.

According to police, 48-year-old Raylon Kyon Jones was arguing with another man shortly before 3 a.m. When the argument got more heated, the disagreement became physical, police said. At some point the second man assaulted a woman who tried to break up the fight. When Jones intervened, the second man pulled out a gun and fired multiple rounds, striking the man multiple times and another victim at least once.

The man, who was also injured, left the scene but was taken into custody a short time later on the 5700 block of Bexar Street. He was then transferred to Baylor Medical Center Dallas for treatment of unspecified injuries.

Jones, meanwhile, was found on the ground by responding officers in a wooded area behind a convenience store along the 2300 block of 2nd Avenue. Dallas Fire-Rescue transported him to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The second shooting victim was treated and released at the scene.

The suspect, whose name is being withheld until he's formally charged, is expected to face charges of assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and murder.

Dallas police said the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
