Man Fatally Shot Outside Arlington Tobacco Store

One man was fatally shot during an altercation at a tobacco store in South Arlington on Tuesday, police say.

According to the Arlington Police Department, officers responded to a shooting call at 5900 block of South Cooper Street at 10:45 a.m. When officers arrived, they found two men holding two other men at gunpoint and, presumably, a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The injured man was transported to Medical Center of Arlington, where he died, police said.

After talking to witnesses, police determined an altercation inside the store spilled outside, where shots were fired and that the armed men were clerks at the store. Police said the two men held at gunpoint had been inside the store and were possibly customers, though why they were being held at gunpoint remains unclear.

Police have not said who shot the man or if anyone has been taken into custody in connection with his death.

Police said further details around the shooting are not known and that the investigation is ongoing.
