A man has drowned after rescuing his 4-year-old daughter from a storm-swelled creek at a Central Texas dam.
Police in Round Rock said the man's body was recovered shortly after the accident Sunday in Brushy Creek. Officials identified the victim as 38-year-old Jorge Martinez Sr.
Martinez, his wife and his daughter were in the area when the girl walked onto the dam. Authorities believe the girl became frightened and couldn't return on her own, so her father tried to retrieve her.
Both ended up over the dam and in the water. Martinez was able to get his daughter to safety, but he was pulled away by rushing water.
City officials in Round Rock, just north of Austin, plan to discuss possible installation of warning signs or a fence at the site.
