Arlington police were called to a home on the 3400 block of Spring Meadows Drive at about 10:30 p.m. for a call reporting a burglary in progress, police said.

When police arrived, they found a man on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. That man, later identifed as 24-year-old Destrey Tinner, was transported to Medical Center of Arlington where he later died.

While officers were gathering information at the scene of the shooting, the homeowner who is believed to have fatally shot Tinner, identified by police as 54-year-old David Stephenson, began showing signs of distress.

Stephenson was also taken by ambulance to Medical Center of Arlington where he, too, later died.

"He was a great man," Stephenson's wife Marge said. "He would do anything for anyone. And for this to happen is just not right."

Investigators are still trying to piece together what happened, but did say Thursday afternoon that initial information indicates Stephenson and his wife were in their garage when Tinner approached and that there was some sort of an altercation before the shooting.

Police said it appears that Tinner and Stephenson knew each other and that there were indications from neighbors that there may have been "some type of at-risk behavior" occurring at the residence.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
