Man Convicted of Killing Paris Couple Set to Die

A northeast Texas man is headed to the Texas death chamber for the slayings of an elderly couple found brutally beaten and stabbed in their home.

Larry Wooten is set for execution in the Texas death chamber in Huntsville Thursday evening for the 1996 murders of 80-year-old Grady Alexander and his 86-year-old wife, Bessie in the Lamar County town of Paris.

Wooten says he didn't kill the couple, for whom he formerly worked doing odd jobs. But DNA evidence helped convict him, including blood found in the kitchen floor of the Alexanders' home that was matched to Wooten.

Prosecutors say Wooten robbed the couple, taking their $500 in savings so he could buy cocaine.

The 51-year-old would be the 17th inmate executed this year in the nation's most active death penalty state.
